Abstract The seismic performance of precast portal frames typical the industrial and commercial sector could be generally improved by providing additional mechanical devices at beam-to-column joint. Such provide an degree fixity energy dissipation in a joint characterized dry hinged connection, adopted to speed-up construction phase. Another advantage placing is possibility act as fuse, concentrating damage on few sacrificial replaceable elements. A procedure design adopting provided herein. moves from Displacement-Based Design methodology proposed M.J.N. Priestley, it applicable for both new structures retrofit existing ones. After derivation required analytical formulations, applied select structural system. validation through non-linear time history analyses allows highlight advantages drawbacks considered prove effectiveness procedure.
